It’s official, the Dimension Films release of Piranha 3DD has finally begun shooting in Wilmington NC. Under the watchful eye of director John Gulager, principal photography is underway for the 3D sequel to Alexandre Aja’s brilliant remake of Joe Dante’s 1978 original.
The sequel plans to up the gore even further than Aja’s brutal effort by bringing the prehistoric piranha to a newly opened waterpark named The Big Wet Water Park. The vicious and hungry fish will enter swimming pools, tubs, underwater tunnels and all sorts of pipes in order to get in and eat the visitor’s to the park. Thus is gonna be a hell of a lot of fun when it finally gets a release. The initial release date was scheduled for September here in the UK, although that date has now been pushed back to November 23rd.
Amongst its stars are Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies, Friday the 13th remake), Meagan Tandy (Unstoppable), both pictured below, and also Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spiderman), David Koechner (Anchorman) and Paul James Jordon. More cast members are still to be announced. And just for the record, director John Gulager is no stranger to the horror genre, he was responsible for the Feast trilogy.
