Sony Pictures put their ‘stakes’ on a new Dracula franchise

Deadline have reported that Sony Pictures are getting set to join the many other Dracula based horror films on the horizon. With Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D and another project titled Dracula Year Zero on their way soon, Dracula is back in a big way and Sony want in. With Frankenstein also making a comeback with a very large amount of films due based based on his antics, and with a few Werewolf themed horrors also on the way,it would appear the classic monsters are well and truly back!

Sony’s version is intended to be a period piece, and will also be a franchise starter based on a pitch by Jason Keller. Keller has previously written Machine Gun Preacher and the upcoming Mirror, Mirror and the Stallone and Arnie starring actioner, The Tomb.

Per Deadline, “Sony Pictures has acquired a pitch from scribe Jason Keller for a period origin story on the Dracula mythology that will be produced by Joe Roth and Palak Patel. I’m hearing the deal was high six figures against seven-figures. It becomes the latest in a growing list of films about the iconic vampire borne out of the legend of Vlad the Impaler. Insiders at Sony would only say the intention is to launch a period franchise… Keller most recently scripted Relativity Media’s ‘Mirror Mirror’

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
