After all the panic of possibly being a PG-13, Dolph Lundgren says ‘The Expendables 2’ should be an R-rating!

Back in January it was rumoured that Chuck Norris had requested the swearing and violence be toned down for The Expendables 2. Claiming he does not make films unsuitable for youngsters anymore, the rumours were saying that The Expendables 2 was likely to be a PG-13 rating, which would be a 12A or a 15 at a push here in the UK. As expected, fans were upset, because a sequel to such an amazing, violent action flick like The Expendables simply had to take things further.

Anyway, it would appear (hopefully) that those rumours were not true. AICN had heard rumours recently that Stallone had said the film was likely to be an R rating, which would usually be an 18 here in the UK, sometimes a 15 depending on cuts. Empire sat down with Dolph Lundgren over the weekend and quizzed him on the potential rating for The Expendables 2, and here is what he said:

“I heard that it’s now R again,” says Dolph. “Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same. I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better.”

When asked about Chuck Norris and his so-called plans to reduce the films certificate, it turns out the Norris like’s to edit his own films before showing them to his kids (as you do!):

“Chuck likes to re-cut all of his films before he shows them to his kids,” grins Dolph. “He told me he has his own editor. So it’s irrelevant! He could make it a G-rating if he wanted to!”

So there you have it, calm down, relax and expect a barrage of blood, violence and big men smacking seven bells of crap out of each other as The Expendables 2 is back on track! I imagine Norris as able to stand his ground for a bit of the argument, but come on, even Norris’ chin would eventually give in to the likes of Stallone, Arnie, Willis, The Stath not forgetting Mr Van Damme!

The sequel, directed by Simon West, has a massive list of names involved: Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Liam Hemsworth, Randy Couture, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Scott Adkins and Nan Yu. Expect to see The Expendables 2 in UK cinemas this summer!

Synopsis:

“The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….”

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
