The Raid’s Iko Uwais joins Keanu Reeves’ ‘The Man of Tai Chi’

If you have still not seen Gareth Evan’s awesome flick, The Raid (review) then you have missed out on something truly amazing at the cinema. Fear not though, the film will arrive on DVD & Bluray here in the UK on 24th September.

However, those who have seen the Raid will know that the films main star, Iko Uwais, is one hard as nails bastard, and while much of the focus on The Raid has been on the director himself, let’s not forget that Uwais brought some truly unique fighting skills to his performance. In short, a new martial arts star has been born, and he is already bagged himself a brand new role in a very large film indeed.

Keanu Reeves is directing the kung-fu epic which he says:  “There’s 18 fights. We’ve timed it out. It’s about 40 minutes of fighting. I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot—but let’s get some good kung fu going!”

Reeves clearly wants to display plenty of action in his new film, and also show off a visionary new way of shooting fight scenes (more info here), and with any luck this new approach will further allow Uwais to shine on screen. The Raid star has been signed on to play a character who appears in one of the films later fights, squaring up against the films here, played by Tiger Chen.

Reeves will also star in the film as the villain, and already he has cast Tiger Chen (who worked on the stunt team in The Matrix) as the protagonist, and Karen Mok East Meets West) as the femme fatale.  The story revolves around “In Beijing, a young martial artist’s skill places him in position to experience opportunities and sacrifices”

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
