HELLO QUO! – The Definitive Documentary of Status Quo

This DVD is a must-have for all fans of the legendary British rockers, Status Quo. For a good 2 hours and 30 minutes, Hello Quo chronicles how band members Francis Rossi, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan met and went on to become Status Quo after a string of failed songs. With the addition of Rick Parfitt, the band released Pictures of Matchstick Men, followed by Ice in the Sun, which become Top 10 hits with their psychedelic sounds.

The documentary interviews the band members both past and present as well as friends of Quo, workmates and those who were influenced by their music such as Brian May (Queen), Ginger (The Wildhearts), Cliff Richard and Paul Weller. The band themselves discuss their early years, such as meeting drummer John Coghlan as the cadets, and Rick Parfitt’s original outfit, cabaret act The Highlights with co-stars the Harrison twin sisters and moving from their psychedelic roots to a much rockier sound which we still know and love today.

Intertwined throughout the documentary are live video recordings of the band playing at various venues and appearances on television, such as Top of the Pops were the band made a record 106 appearances. The reason why most fans will be itching to see this fantastic and thorough documentary is the live studio performance at Shepperton Studios bringing all four original band members back together after years of bitter court battles between them.

The documentary is edited exceptionally well and is an interesting insight into the world of Quo. Whilst I like some of their tunes, I wouldn’t class myself as a Quo fan but I must admit Hello Quo! kept me entertained for the full running time and for hardcore Status Quo fans, the Access All Areas special edition includes a second disc which is jammed pack full of unseen footage and extras – a good 3 hours worth!

Needless to say, if you’re a Status Quo fan, Hello Quo! is the ultimate addition to your DVD or Blu-Ray collection and is the definitive documentary of the band.
