Sylvester Stallone took to Twitter today to announce the director for The Expendables 3, and it is a bit of a shock. Initially Stallone was tapping Mel Gibson to take the job, but that never amounted to anything, and now it has been revealed that Australian director Patrick Hughes has taken the job. Stallone announced the news on his new best friend, Twitter.
Hughes is an Australian commercials director who has made a small amount of short film including Signs, The Lighter and The Director. His only feature lengthy film is the 2010 Western Red Hill. Hughes is expected to begin work on The Expendables 3 next week, and production is set to begin mid August.
About a month ago, Stallone took to Twitter to reveal:
Writing EX3 at the moment… there are going to be mountains of surprises.
EX3 needs NEW blood and more humor…. The films were always meant to be more on the humorous side with moments of drama..
A few weeks back Stallone also announced that Wesley Snipes had joined the team, although this is still yet to be confirmed.
