According to Deadline, producers at Paramount have announced that they have signed up Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Mission Impossible: – Ghost Protocol) to pen the script for Beverly Hills Cop 4 and have apparently enlisted Eddie Murphy to return to the role of Axel Foley.
The series, which began in 1984, was tailor made for Murphy as a fast-talking, quick-on-his-feet Detroit cop, and grossed $750 million collectively.
Interest for the next installment of the franchise came about from a recent pilot for a TV version of Beverly Hills Cop, produced by Sony Pictures TV with Paramount, where Murphy reprised his role and showed that there was still fire in both the character and Murphy yet. For whatever reason, the TV series never went anywhere but sparked interest to make another film.
So, the question is will it go ahead? Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been talked about for a number of years so it will be interesting to see if they follow through with it this time.
