The Facebook campaign for a Dredd sequel has managed to achieve over 32,000 likes and continues to grow. However, there is now even more of a chance of helping see a sequel get made thanks to a new petition. If you, like me, want to see a sequel to Dredd, then all you have to do is head to the petition and gives your name and email address.
These things work people, it worked for Cabin in the Woods, and based on the massive sales of Dredd on DVD & Blu-ray, all the sequel needs is a gentle push to get the studios to back it.
Star Karl Urban spoke at Comic-Con yet again about his backing for a sequel, and it is very clear that he is willing to return. You can watch an interview with him below, but here is the most exciting part of what he said:
“It’s certainly my hope that we get to make more,” he tells Airlock Alpha. “Clearly it has found an audience. The home video sales for Dredd 3D just went through the roof. I think it sold 650,000 units in the first week.”
This backs up what he told Collider back in May, only now he has actual sales figures to back it up. In May Urban said:
“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”
