The second film of the Unlock Art series has been revealed and stars Bridget Jones’s Diary actress Sally Phillips.
In Unlock Art: Browsing the International Art Market, Sally Phillips explores the historic relationship of art to money, and the big art shoppers of the day including the Greeks and Romans, the popes and princes of the Italian Renaissance and, of course, the over-avid art shopper King Charles 1st. The film also explores how shopping for high quality art has turned into a global phenomenon in recent years.
The film is a collaboration between Tate and Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts and aims to unlock some of the biggest ideas and stories in art. Sally Phillips joins forces with TV and film celebrities including new Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi, comedian Frank Skinner and actor Alan Cumming for Unlock Art which offers the culturally curious a stimulating, imaginative and witty introduction to the world of art.
This is the second of eight films in the Unlock Art series which will be released on a monthly basis. Viewers will be taken on an engaging journey through various art movements and themes, from the history of the nude and humour in art, to Surrealism and Pop – offering the need-to-know facts, and making the arts more accessible to a wider audience.
Unlock Art is part of Le Méridien’s ongoing commitment to provide a new perspective on the hotel experience through a curated approach to culture. Its support of the Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection, which is in its sixth consecutive year, enables Tate to buy work by emerging artists at Frieze.
