In Unlock Art: The World Goes Pop, actor Alan Cumming examines the genesis and nature of Pop Art and its key players including Andy Warhol, Peter Blake and Roy Lichtenstein. The film examines how America’s vibrant and aspirational can-do culture became the focus of the movement, and how Hollywood movies, advertising, packaging and fame inspired its look.

This is the third film in the series of eight made in a collaboration between Tate and Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts which aims to unlock the big stories and ideas behind art. Other presenters in the series include the new Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi, comedian Frank Skinner and comedy actress Sally Philips. Unlock Art aims to take viewers on a journey through various art movements and themes, from the history of the nude and humour in art, to Surrealism and Pop – offering the need-to-know facts, and making the arts more accessible to a wider audience.

Unlock Art is part of Le Méridien’s ongoing commitment to provide a new perspective on the hotel experience through a curated approach to culture. Its support of the Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection, which is in its sixth consecutive year, enables Tate to buy work by emerging artists at Frieze.

I love prosthetic effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: Silent Hill
