One World Media has announced the top 3 finalists in each of the categories for this year’s Awards, taking place in London on 6th May and presented by Jon Snow.

Regarded amongst journalists reporting on foreign affairs and international stories as ‘the one award that any journalist hopes to win’, the Awards recognise excellence in media coverage of the developing world, reflecting the social, political and cultural life of people across the globe.

“2014 saw our highest number of entries yet,” said Clothilde Redfern, Director of One World Media. “More than 300 submissions from all over the world – a testament to the high regard the media industry has for our awards. We are proud to continue to highlight the work international journalists are doing in covering the wider world and bringing stories from developing countries to UK audiences.”

Now in their 26th year, the annual One World Media Awards are attended by key figures from across the media industry, government, and development NGOs. The 13 award categories cover all types of media, from television and radio to print, digital media and film, and the list of nominees boast many of the top names in broadcasting, filmmaking and journalism.

This year saw the introduction of the Short Film Award and the Corruption Reporting Award, sponsored by Transparency International. As in previous years, the Awards ceremony will culminate in the presentation of the Special Award for an outstanding media organisation working on the ground in the developing world.

Tickets to attend the ceremony are now on sale at oneworldmedia.org.uk.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
