Nintendo news! New 2DS designs and a new way to download Nintendo games

2DS Transparent

Firstly, we hark back to the good old days of the GameBoy, as Nintendo are to release a new transparent 2DS!

As anticipation mounts for the release of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire on 28th November, Nintendo has today revealed upcoming hardware offerings for Nintendo 2DS, that present new designs for the system.

On 7th November, both Nintendo 2DS Transparent Red and Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue will release in Europe, presenting the hardware in new eye-catching forms. Aside from the side paneling, both offerings are transparent in design, revealing the skeleton of the system underneath both the front and back of the system casing.
From 28th November, and to mark the launch of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, two new bundles incorporating the upcoming Nintendo 2DS hardware designs are set to release:

  • Nintendo 2DS Transparent Red + Pokémon Omega Ruby includes: a Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue system plus a copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby pre-installed on a 4GB memory card
  • Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue + Pokémon Alpha Sapphire includes: a Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue system plus a copy of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire pre-installed on a 4GB memory card

Following on from the announcement of the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version, Nintendo UK has also today confirmed the distribution mechanism for how fans can get hold of the Special Demo Version in the UK from 15th October.

The Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version will be available in the UK from Game, Amazon, Smyth Toys Superstores, ShopTo and the Nintendo UK Official Store from the 15th October until launch.

The codes will then also be made available through a number of other partners including Wikia, Bin Weevils and Nintendo Life until mid-November.

The Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version features gameplay that players won’t experience anywhere else. During the course of this early adventure, players are likely to encounter a familiar Pokémon that can now Mega Evolve. What’s more, this Mega-Evolved Pokémon can be brought into the full Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games. Reward items obtained during the Special Demo Version adventure can also be brought into the full game. Details about how to bring Pokémon and items into the full game will be announced soon.

In other news, Nintendo has unveiled details of a more convenient mechanic for selling downloadable versions of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games at retail across the UK, Ireland and Germany, with further European countries following in the future.

The new distribution platform allows European retailers the opportunity to sell a range of Nintendo digital codes via a tablet-based solution. In turn, customers will be able to visit participating stores to conveniently purchase redemption codes for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS software, including download exclusive titles and add-on content, using this new purchase mechanic. In-store, once a customer has chosen a game to purchase, the retailer will use the tablet-based service to issue and print out a unique code that will allow the purchaser to download the specific content to their Wii U or Nintendo 3DS device via Nintendo eShop.

The new distribution platform is already available at LEGOLAND Germany in Günzburg, Germany, and also recently launched in the UK – on 17th September – at the Reading branch of Smyths Toys Superstore.
