Director Benni Diez’s giant Wasp creature feature, Stung, has been in development for sometime now, and after presenting itself at the American Film Market last November, Stung is poised for its world premiere at Tribeca 2015.
In anticipation of the big event, a really cool trailer has just been released, and trust me, you are gonna love this!
If you love creature features, or even horror films which know their target audience and are happy to laugh at themselves, then Stung is for you. The first trailer is marvelous, and Stung really does look like one of the finest monster films to have come along in some time.
Stung, which focuses on a giant wasp, is being released by Rat Pack Film Produktion and Twitch’s XYZ Films, and is directed by German special effects wizard Benni Diez. Diez has worked on Lars Von Triers Melancholia, and has been making commercials after his first short film, Kingz.
The film has been described as “a creature feature in the old style – a slyly tongue in cheek, action driven horror comedy that calls back to the days before creature features became the sole provenance of sub-Corman knock-em-out-cheap hack jobs. Think Tremors or Slither on a more compact scale”.
Matt O’Leary (Frailty, Death Sentence), Jessica Cook, Peter Stormare and Lance Henriksen (Aliens) all star in the horror comedy.
Adam Aresty wrote the screenplay, which is “about a fancy garden party that goes wrong when a local species of wasp mutates, resulting in an attack by giant insects. It is left to two catering staff to thwart the onslaught and in the process develop a romance.”
For catering staffers Paul and Julia, Mrs. Perch’s fancy garden party at her remote country villa is nothing out of the ordinary. A mishap with toxic plant fertilizer leads to the most unwelcome of dinner guests: giant killer wasps. Director Benni Diez takes audiences on a thrilling, gory rollercoaster ride from campy to creepy, in this delightful and dreadful creature-feature.
