The first Bad Boys film, which saw Will Smith and Martin Lawrence play best buds coppers, was great, the sequel was not so great. Michael Bay directed both, and many believed he would direct the long in development third film.

Thankfully though it now appears that Bay will not be back, and according to Deadline, Joe Carnahan is in early talks to not only read over the script, but to direct, which would be awesome.

Carnahan directed the superb cop thriller Narc, and he also crafted the wonderful guys vs wolves survival feature The Grey. The A-Team was pretty good too, so Carnahan definitely has the talent to turn Bad Boys into a more gritty film, and do a better job than Bay.

Sony is said to be wanting to move forward on this film quickly, and David Guggenheim (Safe House) is said to have written a strong script, and it appears that Sony are hoping to bag Smith to make this his next film after Suicide Squad.

More on this as it develops.

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
