Ok, so it’s not one of Arnie’s classics like Total Recall [you know what, I can’t really remember anything about the remake of that now except for the awesome girl fight!], but I still have a soft spot for Kindergarten Cop, the one where he’s a cop posing as a kindergarten teacher to get closer to a drug baron, nonetheless. I don’t see the point in remaking it but Universal Pictures are going to remake it anyway, though the result won’t be seen in cinemas. Showbiz 411 reports that Universal’s 1440 division, the branch responsible for direct-to-DVD sequels, will produce the remake of Kindergarten Cop with some significant alterations to the story. Schwarzenegger’s replacement will apparently be “a leading man type with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit.” The duo are looking for a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program that has ended up in the kindergarten class. The bad guys are Albanian. We do still have a pretty teacher though.
The director for this eagerly awaited [sarcasm] film is a guy called Don Michael Paul, who apparently made a direct-to-video sequel to the excellent Jarhead entitled Jarhead 2: Field of Fire. The script is by American Pie 2‘s David H. Steinberg, so we’ll get lots of witty comedy there [sarcasm]. And, if it’s well recieved, the film may lead to a Kindergarten Cop television series.
This is all getting so desperate. What’s the betting Twins will be next, now that the sequel announced back in 2012 doesn’t seem to be happening? And please, just leave the stupidly awesome action masterpiece that is Commando alone.
