Everyone wants to see Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman team up for one last Hellboy outing, and it would  be great to see the trilogy finally complete.

However, roughly a year ago director Guillermo del Toro put Hellboy III to rest, stating:

“Creatively, I would love to make it. Creatively. But it is proven almost impossible to finance. Not from MY side, but from the studio side. If I was a multimillionaire, I would finance it myself, but I spend all my money on rubber monsters.”

However, since then monster films have continued to be a hug success at the box office, with Jurassic World becoming the biggest opening film of all time, and previous films like del Toro’s own Pacific Rim and Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reaping box office rewards. Monsters are big business, people love them, and according to Hellboy himself Ron Perlman, a studio may actually be backing a much desired third Hellboy film.

Perlman posted the below image on Instagram, which is sure to delight fans, but does he seriously mean a third film is on the way?

Lurking… Waiting… And then, poof… One more Roman numeral after the name… As if by magic………..

I really really hope so because the trilogy demands to get made, and if you check out del Toro’s plans for the third film below, then you’ll be hungry for this to get made too.

Del Toro revealed last year what he had planned for the sequel:

Well, you know, we don’t have that movie on the horizon, but the idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film,” he said. “He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It’s a very interesting ending to the series, but I don’t think it will happen.”

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
