That unnecessary remake of Pascal Laugier’s savage and brilliant horror, Martyrs, has now been granted a US release, courtesy of Anchor Bay.

No dates have been confirmed, but the film is said to be getting a limited theatrical release ahead of its DVD, Blu-ray and VOD release. The only good thing about this remake is that it means many more horror fans may get curious, and check out the stunning original.

The Goetz Brothers (Science Route) direct, and Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Sinister, The Purge) produces. Mark L. Smith (Vacancy, The Hole, The Revenant) penned the screenplay.

“True Blood” star Bailey Noble toplines with “Pretty Little Liars” actress Troian Bellisario. Kate Burton and Blake Robbins round out the cast.

In ‘Martyrs’ 10-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
