Is ‘Crank 3’ finally on the way?

I’ll never forget how blown away I was when Crank first came out. I have little or no interest in seeing it, but one day I decided to give it a go, expecting a cheesy seen it all before action film.

Boy was I wrong, and from start to finish I was cheering, screaming, laughing and pretty much having the time of my life watching such an insane, hilarious, ultra violent action film unfold. Crank was quite simply an adrenaline rush of a movie experience, and I bloody loved it.

Jason Statham (even after impressing me with Lock, Stock and Snatch) suddenly became a tour de force of an action star, and I was hooked. When the sequel came out I had high hopes, but nothing could have prepared me for just how good the sequel was, and somehow writers and directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor had made an even more insane sequel.

There has been talk of a third Crank film for years, but Neveldine revealed in an interview with ScreenCrush (promoting The Vatican Tapes) that Crank 3 is looking more and more likely to happen:

“We’re definitely gonna do solo films (as in Neveldine and Taylor working on their own). But we have an approved treatment for Crank 3 and we’re super-excited about it. I know we’ve talked about it in the past, but we had lunch with Jason [Statham], we had lunch with Lakeshore. Everybody wants to do it, it’s just now about all the stars aligning. Brian and I have a couple things that we’d really like to do as a team, and there are projects that really make sense that way. But also everybody thinks we’re just one person. We’re actually two guys with families and kids now, and we have things that we want to do solo and we’re very supportive of each other doing that. But we want to do Crank 3”

Considering how Crank 2 left things, Neveldine then explained just how they could make Crank 3 work:

That alone, we have 20 ways to tackle it. You know, with Crank, basically, you insert another quarter and you play the game again. It’s kind of like what thrills me and Brian, it’s whatever we feel like doing there in the moment, whatever we wanna do, we just do and make it happen. The important thing is what powers Chev. It was adrenaline that kept him alive in the first one, it was electricity in the second one, you know, it’s all about what will keep him alive in the third one. It’s just fun slinging those ideas around”

Come on, let’s have that almighty Crank 3!

Statham himself is up for it, as a few years back he publicly stated:

“I love those two lads, [directors Mark] Neveldine and [Brian] Taylor,” he said. “I haven’t seen any scripts or anything for it, but they’re a couple that you can’t say no to.” Asked whether that meant he’d be up for Crank 3, Statham had a quick and enthusiastic response: “Of course!”

And of course we all want another, so let’s make it happen, please!!!!

This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
