The first trailer has just dropped for The Revenant, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s follow up to Birdman. The director has proved his worth over the years with stunning films like 21 Grams, Babel, the stunning Amores Perros and, of course, Birdman, and now he’s back with a dark Western starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.

The first trailer is brutal, shocking stuff, but is filled with a haunting atmosphere that actually makes it scary and unsettling. The trailer is expertly created for maximum effect, and scenes are included which are guaranteed to shock and engulf the viewer in mystery. There’s also some fine and nifty camerawork on display, proving that The Revenant could be Inarritu’s 2015 Oscar contender.

This looks pretty fecking amazing.

The Revenant is written and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and the cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Paul Anderson.

The film arrives in UK cinemas 15th January 2016.

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT captures one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
