Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, AKA The Vicious Brothers, are the pair responsible for horror features Grave Encounters and Extraterrestrial (above), and their names by now should be well known among the horror community.

THR is reporting that the pair have setup their latest horror film, and this comes with a little help from highly skilled genre writer Simon Barrett. Barrett usually works with director Adam Wingard, and the pair have created such horror classics as You’re Next, The Guest, some of the VHS segments, a short for The ABCs of Death and also upcoming Blair Witch type horror, The Woods. It is safe to assume that if you are a horror fan, you are very familiar with Wingard and Barrett’s work.

Pairing The Vicious Brothers with such an exceptional writer can only lead to great things, but wait until you hear what The Temple is about, as this news only gets better.

The film will deal with ghostly goings on in Japan’s temples, but as of now that is all we know about the plot.

As a cool tie-in with the film, a book of ghost stories surrounding various real temples in Japan will also be released. Written by Eiji Otsuka, the book will be featured in the film because one of the chapters focuses on the fictional temple in the project. Toei Animation will also create a 15-part anime series based on this book.

Neal Edelstein of Hooked Digital Media, Shinya Egawa of Hemisphere Motion Picture Partners, Eric Bassett of Absurda and Mike Macari are producing while Toei Animation in Japan is financing.

The film will shoot in Japan this year.

Matt Wavish

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
