It was recently rumoured that director Ridley Scott might be starting work on his Prometheus sequel as soon as early 2016, but with so many projects in the pipeline (including Blade Runner 2 and The Cartel, possibly) it was never truly confirmed that Prometheus 2 would shoot that early.

There has been talk that Fox want to get Prometheus 2 sorted before Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5, but until now everything was speculation. However, Scott has now confirmed to Empire (while talking about The Martian) that Prometheus 2 WILL indeed be his next film:

They faced another challenge when the film’s release date was brought forward. But according to [Matt] Damon, the typically fast-working Scott didn’t worry. “Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot!” he smiles. “I was already on to my next movie!” adds Scott. “I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2.”

It is great to hear Scott confirm Prometheus 2 as his next film, and with Damon stating how quick The Martian finished filming (above), then the January 2016 rumuored start of production on Prometheus 2 could very well turn out to be true.

This would in turn guarantee Prometheus 2 for a 2017 release, the same year Alien 5 is due for release.

Plot details for Prometheus 2 are unknown at this time, but early reports suggest the film would see Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender’s head going to the Engineers planet, looking for revenge.

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
