Excitement for Ridley Scott’s new movie The Martian seems to be building following the release of the first ‘Ares 3’ viral video and the first trailer. I’m getting rather excited about it myself as Exodus: Gods And Kings, while very flawed, seemed to stem Scott’s downhill slide, and I think this could be very good indeed, even if I can’t stop thinking both Interstellar and Robinson Crusoe On Mars!

Fox has just launched a second viral video teaser broadcast from the ‘Ares Live’ YouTube channel, described as: “NASA offers a declassified look at the psychological testing involved in preparing the ARES 3 crew for their journey to Mars”.I’m not sure if this footage is actually in the film or has just been created to promote it, but it’s a nice taster of a possible second trailer to follow as we get to spend just a little time with astronaut Mark Watney, commander Melissa Lewis, pilot Rick Martinez, and flight surgeon Christopher Beck.

The Martian is directed by Ridley Scott, with Drew Goddard adapting the novel written by Andy Weir. The cast includes Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, The Martian features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

The Martian lands in UK cinemas 2nd October.

Dr Lenera

Dr LeneraI'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
