THR has confirmed that a Fear the Walking Dead special will air during the breaks when The Walking Dead Season 6 is airing, however no dates have been confirmed yet.

The half hour special, which will also debut on-line, will introduce a mystery character to Fear the Walking Dead by way of a plane overrun with zombies (much like World War Z). The character survives the incident, and becomes part of the regular Fear the Walking Dead TV series.

AMC are not planning a crossover with The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, so this is technically the next best thing. The thirty minute feature will play specific chapters during the commercial breaks of The Walking Dead.

Per THR:

The web series will take place during the time period of Fear the Walking Dead — at the origins of the outbreak — and feature an outbreak on a passenger craft in flight before civilization has fallen. One character who survives the flight from hell will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead’s previously announced 15-episode second season.

It’s unclear who is writing the special, how many installments there will be in the web series or when they will begin airing during commercial breaks during The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead Season 6 returns to AMC on 16th October, beginning with a feature length opening episode.

A companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, “Fear the Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. Co-Executive Producer Adam Davidson, who directed the pilot, is also directing the second and third episodes. The series’ first season, consisting of six one-hour episodes, will premiere on AMC in late summer.

“‘Fear the Walking Dead’ takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of ‘The Walking Dead,’” said Kirkman. “A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing mostly likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you. The stakes are going to be higher and the ride more intense. We’re going to show people all the insanity of civilization crumbling that Rick Grimes slept through. Buckle up.”

Fear the Walking Dead begins on AMC on 23rd August.

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
