Kate Beckinsale was confirmed back in May to be returning for Underworld 5 as Selene, and now we know who she will be facing in the latest installment of the franchise.
Deadline has confirmed that Tobias Menzies (above, Outlander) has joined the cast as a new Lycan leader.
That film is directed by Anna Foerster, who helmed Menzies in the season finale of Outlander that created a ton of buzz as Menzies’ character tortured and repeatedly sexually assaulted the show’s main character, played by Sam Heughan. In the fifth installment of Underworld, Menzies will play Marius, a mysterious new Lycan leader. Kate Beckinsale stars in the film series.
Theo James will reprise his role of David, and the script is written by Cory Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter).
Len Wiseman, who wrote and produced all the previous Underworld film, remains as producer on the fifth film.
The plot is rumoured to focus on a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races.
The franchise launched in 2003 with Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Beckinsale, followed by 2006’s Underworld: Evolution, 2009’s Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and 2012’s Underworld: Awakening, which grossed $160 million worldwide.
