Matt Reeves’ sequel to his own Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has cast its first of two human leads, and finally things are moving on the hotly anticipated third Apes film.
Titled War of the Planet of the Apes, Gabriel Chavarria (below) has bagged the first lead role, however his exact role is being kept under wraps.
War of the Planet of the Apes, once again directed by Matt Reeves, will begin shooting in October in Vancouver.
Chavarria, repped by Paradigm and Momentum, is the male lead in Hulu’s drama series East Los High. He also stars in Low Riders, from Imagine and Blumhouse, where he plays an East LA teen immersed in the world of lowrider cars and street tagging while caught between his traditional father (Demian Bichir) and his estranged gangbanger brother, who both are competing in the annual lowrider “Supershow.” His other recent credits include Aquarius, Prime Suspect, Southland and the feature Teacher Of The Year.
Reevea told Collider a few months ago that the third film is “is about him (Caesar) becoming the seminal figure for ape history. [It’s] like myth ascension, him becoming the ape Moses, for lack of a better sort of character to model him after.”
War of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Matt Reeves, is due for release in cinemas on 14th July 2017.
