I love prosthetic effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: Kingdom Come: Deliverance

  1. Serenity – I was a fan of Firefly and this is a great film based on that TV series. Loads of action and fight scenes. This was a really enjoyable film and I wish they would make more episodes of the TV series.

  2. Starship Troopers, the first one, it was laughable, the others just plain terrible. How to take a franchise and stretch it beyond its life span.

  3. My personal favourite is Flash Gordon – visually it’s incredible and there are some great action sequences throughout, perfectly complemented by Queen’s stunning soundtrack.

  4. Predator! Hands down one of the greatest films of all time. Everything about it is brilliant! Great action, great cast and possibly the greatest collection of one liners in a single film!

  5. My favourite Action Sci Fi film to be different to everyone else is Deep Rising, love a good creature feature and this has lots of action and humour too. you can see why the director got to do the Mummy after, hope it gets a sequel one day

  6. “Attack the Block” – it was funny and exciting, without the benefit of a huge budget. Great to see that Joe Cornish has gone on to co-write “Antman”.

  7. The original alien was brilliant and quite scary. wasn’t so keen on the follow ups, but the prequel was fine x

  8. Until very recently I would have said The original Stars Wars Trilogy, any of them but Edge of Tomorrow (Live. Die. Repeat.) has taken the genre to a new level. Brilliant CGI and a fabulously tight script have made this a modern classic. Any film which sees Tom Cruise killed so often has to have a lot going for it but his first attempt to roll away from the squad is my favourite death.

  9. The original terminator was a good one. Not so impressed with the sequels, but i can watch terminator again and again

  10. Empire Stikes Back – all time favourite Sci-fi film which has it all! Yes, newer films have even more action, but too much cgi distraction. I keep coming back to this again and again and again and again and again!

  11. For sheer fun I’d go for Aliens: Special Edition. Great characters, great action, possibly James Cameron at his best. It’s given us some fantastic action sequences and is still a yardstick that many new movies, even with massive budgets and more advanced SFX still fail to match. “We’re in the pipe, 5 by 5”

  12. ‘The Thing’ because I love the combination of being in a sh*tload of trouble in a place there’s little or no escape from…true horror. Plus the SFX are pretty cool 😆

  13. Aliens.
Although I love the first one and I even enjoyed Alien3 (I will not speak about Alien:Resurrection as I can see why watching it made Joss Whedon cry) the action and suspense in Aliens has it as one of my all time top 10 movies.

  14. The empire strikes back as its not only the best sci fi film, but the greatest film ever made! Its exciting, fun, thrilling and from beginning to end keeps you enthralled!

  15. John Carpenter’s Escape From New York is a superb sci fi film and has a cracking score, great action sequences and a decent cast. A true classic!

  16. Alien/Aliens always makes me jump even now after seeing it several times, you just never know where that blooming big extendable jaw is going to chop out at you next.

  17. It has to be Alien because of Ripley; I love the portrayal of such a strong lead female and the way that she develops as a character through the film.

  18. I love Predator great action and suspense in it and different from a lot of the alien invasion films with them being hunters not invaders. 🙂

  19. Action Sci-fi movies. There are so many good movies to choose from, Aliens or Predator or Terminator? I know lets go a bit left field,,,, Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure. It has time travel and Billy the Kid what more could you ask for? Or maybe Star Trek – Into Darkness. Its Star Trek need I say more.

  20. Hard choice but has to be the original total recall with arnie. Just the right mix of ass kicking fight scenes, shoddy special effects and comedy
