A brief update here on the Maniac Cop remake: Twitch have confirmed that John Hyams will be directing.

Hyams has done a really impressive job directing Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Day of Reckoning, and now he turns his hand to some rather nasty horror with Maniac Cop.

The original 1988 film starred Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins and was about a mysterious uniformed police office who was killing people on the streets of New York City. No further details have been revealed about the remake.

Synopsis for the original film:

Innocent people are being brutally murdered on the streets of New York City by a uniformed police officer. As the death toll rises and City Hall attempts a cover-up, Frank McCrae heads the investigation. A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself under arrest as the chief suspect, having been the victim of a set-up by the real killer and a mysterious woman phone-caller. Forrest, his girlfriend Theresa, and McCrae set out to solve the puzzle before the Maniac Cop can strike again.

Matt WavishA keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
