A few more horror trailers here for you to enjoy, and both are from different horror genres. The Boy, from director William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside, Wer) and starring The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan, looks terribly creepy and very effective. The film see’s a sinister doll cause havoc. Save Yourself, on the other hand, is a love letter to the horror genre, and see’s a group of girls fall victim to some rather twisted individuals.
William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside, Wer) directs from a script written by Stacey Menear. The cast includes Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead), Jim Norton (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Diana Hardcastle (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Ben Robson (“Vikings”), Rupert Evans (Hellboy), and James Russell (“Blue Bloods”).
The Boy will be released in 2016.
Greta (Cohan), a young American woman looking to escape a troubled past, takes a job in a small England village as a nanny for a wealthy couple’s 8-year-old son while they take a long vacation. She arrives at the remote manor to discover that things are not quite right. The surprisingly elderly Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire have a list of strict rules for her to follow in caring for their son, Brahms, and they mysteriously warn Greta that not following them precisely could result in something terrible. But the most disturbing realization of all is that Brahms is not an actual 8-year-old boy… he’s a life-sized porcelain doll, whom the doting parents care for and deeply love, just like a real boy.
“If you love him,” Greta is sternly instructed, “he will love you back.”
Isolated and alone, Greta notices that every time she breaks a rule, something strange happens in the house, and the doll reappears in different places and positions than where she put him. Compelled to uncover the mystery behind Brahms, Greta enlists the help of the local grocery delivery man, the only human being she sees for weeks, who shares horrifying details about the Heelshire family’s disturbing past, leading Greta to realize that she wasn’t just hired – she was chosen.
Ryan M. Andrews directs a cast which includes Jessica Cameron, Tristan Risk, Tianna Nori, Ry Barrett, Elma Begovic and Bobbie Phillips.
“I call Save Yourself my love letter to the horror genre, because it encompasses not just one style of the genre, but all styles on the horror spectrum,” Andrews explains. “It has slasher elements as well as the psychological thriller, and even a little grindhouse as well. And it’s all wrapped together with a sophisticated bow. I miss the sophistication that Vincent Price and Peter Cushing brought to horror, so while the film is fun and sexy with a strong female cast, there is a strong artful layer throughout.”
Crystal is the tough as nails director. Dawn is the by-the-numbers producer. Kim is the girl-next-door lead actress. Lizzy is the loner writer and Sasha is the promiscuous supporting actress. Together, the five women have made a fun and bloody horror film. En route to a film festival, one of the girls goes missing and soon all five ladies find themselves pitted against a mad scientist hellbent on using them for his mysterious experiments.
