On October 26th 2015, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) will release The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology, the entire collection.
A true cinema landmark, the theological thriller is one of the top ten box-office performers of all time. The Exorcist took 10 Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, and won two Oscars®, for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as winning for Best Sound. Subsequently, the film went on to become a multi-million pound franchise.
In 1977 John Boorman (Deliverance) directed Exorcist II: The Heretic starring Linda Blair and Richard Burton; in 1990, the creator of the series, William Peter Blatty, wrote and directed Exorcist III starring George C Scott. In 2004 Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) directed The Exorcist prequel, Exorcist: The Beginning. The anthology also includes Paul Schrader’s film Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist that the production company originally shelved in favour of Harlin’s film. Blatty himself regards Schrader’s film as ‘a handsome, classy, elegant piece of work’.
One evening at an unassuming house in Georgetown, Washington, two priests (Jason Miller and Max Von Sydow) arrive to perform an exorcism on a 12-year-old girl (Linda Blair). The girl’s mother (Ellen Burstyn) believes her daughter has been taken over by a demonic entity…
So begins an unimaginable battle between good and evil, and the start of the most chilling horror film series ever made – released here for the first time ever as a complete set, with a host of extras including alternate versions of the original classic, which, at over 40 years old, is still as chilling as ever.
