I adore Anchorman, its one of the most quotable and funniest films of the last 20 years (in my opinion) but the sequel, well?………it made me laugh a few times, but the quality was way down from what we wanted, but then it did have a lot to live up to.
Director Adam McKay once said that there will never be another sequel but over the last few months, his stance seems to have softened and he has now admitted that there are ideas floating about.
“We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media. I also thought there was something to the idea, and who knows, maybe we will do one some day.” That would no doubt be amazing, and it’s not hard to picture the kind of antics Ron and the team would get up to given the chance to surf the Internet
The other idea seems surreal though.
“I also thought it’d be cool to have Ron Burgundy get embedded in the Iraq War. We kicked around that idea. But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become. And I think you’re right, I think it’s the Internet. The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or ’98.” We could be waiting a while then!”
Will an Anchorman 3 happen though?
The studio would love to make it happen, especially after the sequel gained massive success, but sadly there is nothing concrete at the moment. Here is hoping though!
