Oh dear. As we at HCF get ready for the early morning start, we are being confronted with a host of late night reviews for the much anticipated Batman Vs Superman fightfest and sadly what we are seeing are not more negative than good.
With yours truly not seeing the film until in the early hours Friday Morning, I will refrain from reading any myself as I do not want to be influenced in anyway, but what I am seeing is some fleeting comments made by the more stellar film critics and it seems that Snyder has got it wrong.
The most common theme is that like Man Of Steel the film is way too dark and gloomy. Something that most diehard fans are sick off to be honest. The reason why Deadpool is such a success because it was violent but also damn fun, but it seems BVS does not have a light tone in the entire running time.
“If there’s any justice, dawning or otherwise, at the multiplex, audiences will reject Zack Snyder’s lumbering, dead-on-arrival superhero mélange, a $250 million tombstone for a genre in dire need of a break.” Miami Herald
“In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel duke it out and the audience loses.” The New York Post!
“It’s another numbing smash-and-bash orgy of CGI mayhem with an ending that leaves the door open wide enough to justify the next 10 installments. Is it too late to demand a rematch? GQ Magazine
“This is a film so bad it wears you down and makes you wonder if there was ever such a thing as a hero anyway” Associated Press.
There is some hope though as British sites like Den Of Geek and Empire Magazine both say the film has its flaws but has given it a respected 3 stars out of 5.
Its currently holding a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
My review at HCF will be up sometime on Friday Morning!
