After all the rumours that a certain Daisy Ridley would be putting her Lightsaber down and play the heroine icon Lara Croft, it seems that the force may not have been that strong with her as in a surprise move, Alicia Vikander has been confirmed for the lead role in the planned Tomb Raider film for 2017.
There was always a doubt that Ridley could fit such another high profile role in her already full Star Wars calendar but this is a real coup for the studio who have managed to sign up the in demand actress who is currently riding high thanks to her Oscar turn in The Danish Girl.
Vikander also won acclaim for her role in Ex Machina and will be seen next in the new Jason Bourne film.
Taking over from Angelina Jolie, in what were two poor films, which were not well received by fans of the computer game, the new Tomb Raider which is to be directed by Roar Uthaug and there are big plans to turn this into a huge franchise.
