She was an action icon that was loved for a generation, but its been a long time since we saw Sigourney Weaver in the role of Ripley in the A L I E N franchise and last year, news that she was to return for an Alien 5, set hearts racing with excitement until original director Ridley Scott put a spanner in the works!.

As we have written before, Scott put an end to Neill Blomkamp’s plans for a sequel as he was too busy making his own with Alien: Covenant, a film which was going to link Prometheus to the chest busting franchise.  What with that film still going ahead as planned, Weaver is convinced that she and Blomkamp will get together for their planned sequel.

Here is what Weaver has said:

“Well, I *think* it is. Ridley asked Neill NOT to make our Alien til after Prometheus 2. He (Ridley) wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an AMAZING script, and Neill and I are REALLY excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we DIDN’T do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait.”

This does not confirm that ALIEN 5 is pressing ahead, but does show that the idea is still floating around somewhere.  It all depends on what Covenant does at the box-office, because if that flops, then you can guess FOX would pull the plug on any further ideas for the long running franchise, even though just making an Alien film which would see the return of Ripley, guarantee a great opening night rush!

I guess we have to wait and see!

Ross HughesSince my mother sat me down at the age of five years of age and watched a little called Halloween, I have been hooked on horror. There is no other genre that gets me excited and takes me to the edge of entertainment. I watch everything from old, new, to cheap and blockbusters, but I promise all my readers that I will always give an honest opinion, and I hope whoever reads this review section, will find a film that they too can love as much as I do! Have fun reading, and please DO HAVE NIGHTMARES!!!!!!
