Love them or loathe them, The Power Rangers are a huge lucrative franchise that since the 90’s have been loved and cherished by young children everywhere.
In 2017, Project Almanac director Deaen Israelite is bringing the heroes back in a rebooted film titled Saban’s Power Rangers and above is the first image of the new outfits the fighters will be wear.
Obviously the image has caused a massive stir of Twitter where the negative feedback from fans is gathering at an alarming pace, but Israelite has spoken of the new design.
“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis. These suits needed to feel like they were catalysed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
While Production Designer Andrew Menzies explained further….
“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late. The movie is being directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and its credited screenwriters include Max Landis (Chronicle), John Gatins (Real Steel), Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold) and Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class)
