Though I’m disappointed [but hardly surprised really] that Roland Emmerich has decided to go entirely down the CGI route for the film’s special effects, I’m still looking forward to his belated sequel to his cheesy but immensely fun 1996 alien invasion movie/disaster movie combo Independence Day. A second, slightly spoilerish [at last in terms of one aspect] trailer has just been released and certainly whetted my appetite even more, right from the opening line “I can’t believe it’s been twenty years.” There’s typically panicky or inspiring soundbites from many of the cast, lots of rather Star Wars-like action, and a photograph of a certain character who otherwise doesn’t actually appear in the film….though his son does. When the actor who played him in the first film found out that his character was killed, he reportedly cried.

Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsh, Vivica A Fox and Brent Spinner star in Independence Day: Resurgence, which is directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Nicolas Wright, James A. Woods and Roland Emmerich. It’s out on June 24th.

Dr LeneraI'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
