Well this is a massive turnaround and a quite shocking news story.
We reported a few weeks back that Flatliners, yes that glorious guilty pleasure from the 90’s is getting a reboot and that original star Kiefer Sutherland is back in what we all thought was either a cameo or playing a small role character, just to keep the cult fans happy.
Well we were wrong!
Sutherland has confirmed that the film is in fact a SEQUEL and he is reprising his role as Nelson. Whoa!!!!!
“I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original Flatliners but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film. I loved making the first film and when I was asked if I would be interested in taking part in this, it didn’t take more than a minute to say yes.”
The original which was directed by Joel Schumacher is a huge favourite amongst fans that starred the likes of Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon, about a bunch medical students playing about to see if there is in fact an afterlife.
The sequel sees the likes of Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons all trying to do the same and its to the credit of SONY that they have gone down this route and not offered a blatant remake which makes such a refreshing change.
