Well here’s something really horrifying, guaranteed to really send shivers up the spine of anyone with even a tiny amount of taste in movies. The Twilight Saga was truly appalling, but it made a huge amount of money, mostly it seems from teenage girls. So it makes sense that Summit/Lionsgate wouldn’t want to give up this cash cow yet, even if all of Stephanie Meyer’s books have now been adapted. After all, their Divergent series, despite being rather better, has been a commercial disappointment and the final film is now going to be a TV movie.
Speaking to Screen Daily at the Zurich Film Festival, Patrick Wachsberger, the co-chairman of Lionsgate and former head of Summit, said:
“It’s a possibility. Not a certainty but it’s a possibility. It’s about Stephenie. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we’re here for her. Twilight was a game changer for everyone involved”.
The risk they take with this is that it’s doubtful that Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson, who have both gone on to far better things and really proved themselves, will want to return, which will disappoint much of the fan base, though Taylor Lautner badly needs a hit…
