After several teasers, we finally have the first full Kong: Skull Island trailer, and it’s all kinds of awesome, from showing brief, enticing glimpses of other monsters called ‘Skull Crawlers’ [I think the idea is that dinosaurs are already extinct on the island, possibly having been exterminated by the Skull Crawlers], to maybe informing us that this could be the first Kong movie [we don’t really count Son Of Kong, do we?] where he doesn’t fall in love with the leading lady and doesn’t leave Skull Island, to having distinct touches of Apocalypse Now! I also love the Kong design from what I’ve seen. I think it’s a great choice to make him bipedal again and to give his fur a more brownish color instead of pitch black. Even his eyes look great too and those are always the hardest to animate. Of course he’s now bigger too so he can be a decent match for Godzilla when the two titans meet in the future.
A sister movie to the recent American Godzilla and therefore set in the same universe, Kong: Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, written by Dan Gilroy, John Gatins, Max Borenstein and Derek Connolly, and stars Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Toby Kebbell, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly. It’s out March 17th next year and I can’t bloody wait!
