suspiria

Though I still prefer to pretend it doesn’t exist, news keeps on coming in about the Suspiria remake, and the latest is that Jessica Harper, star of Dario Argento’s brilliant original, is going to appear in it. Though she only acted intermitently after the 70’s and had perhaps greater success in a different career as a writer of children’s books, I’m quite a fan of Harper largely because of her terrific appearances in Suspiria, The Phantom Of The Paradise and the little known, bizarre musical Shock Treatment [now there’s a great trio of cult movies]. But she’s lost a bit of my respect now that she’s decided to appear [though in what role yet we don’t know] in this unwanted remake of probably her most-loved film. They can’t have offered her that much money can they?

The film has just started shooting in Italy. Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton [another actress I’m a fan of who I believe should know better] star, David Kajganich has written the script which seems to follow the outline of Argento’s film, and Luca Guadagnino directs.

Dr Lenera

Dr LeneraI'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
