Whether this is good news or not remains to be seen. I thought Prometheus was an often dumb mess, but the signs are that Alien: Covenant will be a substantial improvement. In any case, The Sydney Morning Herald visited the set of Alien: Covenant, where director and franchise founder Ridley Scott stated that the next Alien movie “is already written”.
“You’ve got to assume to a certain extent success and from that you’d better be ready. You don’t want a two-year gap. So I’ll be ready to go again next year.”
The prequel saga is planned as a four-film cycle, but the 79 year old filmmaker is happy to make even more:
“If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six. I’m not going to close it down again. No way.”
Well, you have to admire the man’s energy.
In the mean time, Alien: Covenant is out on May 12th. It’s written by John Logan and Dante Harper, from a story by Jack Paglen and Michael Green, and stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, and James Franco.
