Ah yes, after rumours have been gathering all week about an old character returning to the show, the BBC have confirmed that it is true and while the shocking “twist” was going to be revealed at the end of next weeks first episode of Season 10, news has leaked and its official….
John Simm is retuning to the show as The Master.
Last seen during the finale of David Tennant’s stint as The Doctor, Simm confirmed he is back with this statement:
“I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back, It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what The Master gets up to in the next series.”
While the long running SCI-FI show has often done a multi Doctor storyline, this is the first time in its history that we will see two Masters on screen with Michelle Gomez playing the role as Missy, after it was revealed The Master regenerated into a woman.
“Nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who,” said showrunner Steven Moffat. “But you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what The Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor.
“It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favourites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.”
Doctor Who starts its final season with Peter Capaldi in the lead role, on Saturday April 15th at 7.20 on BBC One
