GORY LONGER VERSION OF ‘WISH UPON’ COMING OUT ON BLU-RAY

I thought Wish Upon was a stupid, irritating, poorly put together mess of a film, and it didn’t even have the saving grace of some gruesome death scenes. However, movie-censorship.com has reported that director John Leonetti mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the Region ‘A’ [which these days tends to mean also the Region ‘B’ release as well] Blu-ray will contain not only the ‘PG-13’ version seen in cinemas, but also an ‘R’ rated version with eleven minutes of additional footage and also some more blood and violence. Says Leonetti:

That scene with Sherilyn Fenn in the sink, she DOES get scalped and that’s in the unrated director’s cut that we’re releasing on Blu-ray and on cable or wherever. There is a cut that initially got an R and her scalp gets torn up pretty good. I can’t wait for people to see that version of the movie. It’s just better. It’s a better version of the movie all around, but it’s still paced pretty briskly.”

Whether eleven minutes of extra footage will be enough to remove some of the huge story telling problems of the theatrical cut remains to be seen. I would have thought some extensive re-editing would also be required. And I hope they fix the colour correction so the grading doesn’t seem to change several times throughout like it did at the cinema.

I’m a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don’t really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly ‘have a life’, I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I’ve always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
