Digital Spy has confirmed that Shia LaBeouf definitely won’t be returning for the fifth Indiana Jones adventure, despite him playing a key role in the fourth, and the end of the film suggesting that he may take up the reins. Screenwriter David Koepp confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly:
“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say. And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”
In terms of progress, he said that:
“We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start filming, I think that’s up to Mr Spielberg and Mr Ford. I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with.”
Considering that it took them ages to have a script ready for the fourth film which everyone said they were happy with….and yet it turned out to be the worst of the series by some margin….I would say that they should just go ahead and shoot it now before it Harrison Ford looks truly ridiculous doing all those heroics at his age.
Meanwhile Spielberg recently revealed his least favourite Indiana Jones movie, and amazingly it’s not Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And it’s my personal favourite entry in the series. I expect you can guess which one it is.
At the time of writing the next film is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020.
