‘PACIFIC RIM’ UNIVERSE TO EXPAND

This cinematic universe thing is getting ridiculous. We’ve just learnt that, soon after the trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising broke, there are plans to expand the world of the Jaegers and the Kaijus. Said director Steven DeKnight to AITH:

“The plan is to widen the Pacific Rim universe. We’ve had early conversations about what the plot of the next movie would be, and how the end of the next movie would springboard into a widening of the Pacific Rim universe to the scope of Star Wars or Star Trek, really cracking it open where you can go with the main movies, you can go stand-alone movies. Expand the universe.

You could totally do a TV show… I would love to see an animated TV show”.

I enjoyed Pacific Rim greatly, but there’s no getting away from the fact that it was a box office disappointment in the US and it was only its huge success in some Asian countries especially China that caused the sequel to be greenlit. I’d love to be proved wrong, but I can’t see the new film being a huge hit either and I wouldn’t have thought that enough people would be interested to warrant turning this franchise into a whole universe. But we shall see. We haven’t heard any more rumours about merging this series with the American Godzilla franchise for a while either…

I’m a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don’t really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly ‘have a life’, I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I’ve always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
