Bit of a worry for me this!
Halloween 1978 is the most perfect of horror film. There is nothing there that I would love to change. Its a simple tale of a deranged man in a William Shatner mask, stalking and killing some babysitters on Halloween night.
The shape had no motive, no wisecracks, just a guy who breathed heavily and liked to play with a kitchen knife.
By now we know that next year’s film Halloween 2018, is going to ignore every single sequel, a notion that annoyed me deeply as I do love Halloween II and IV, but after Busta Rhymes sucked the life out of the timeline with his dangertaninment!!, I can see why they wanted to go back to a simple time!
In all honestly, the best thing would have been to reboot it from the moment Michael Myers fell from that balcony, have it set in the 80’s with Myers wandering around stalking some fresh meat. But I am not a scriptwriter and some news overnight has me a tiny bit worried that not only are they rebooting the series, but they may also be changing some aspects from the original film.
Danny Mcbride has been talking about the new film and this is what he had to say…
“We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one,“It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality.“
“It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way,”
Now what does he mean by that? Are they rewriting the final scene? If so, how could they? I mean…..why?
He goes on…..
“I just hope that we don’t fuck it up and piss people off, This is such a diehard fan base. You don’t want horror fans being your enemies because they show up at your house with masks on. We are diehard fans of Halloween. We’re watching all the sequels and where things have taken left turns here and there that maybe bites for fans, and at least trying to deliver what we would have wanted to see. Hopefully that will line up with most fans.”
“I think you should be very scared. I mean, this isn’t a comedy at all. I think there was, like, maybe one joke on the page, but the rest is straight horror. So hopefully it gets in people’s heads and keeps them up late at night.”
At this moment I am just happy that a new Halloween film is being made, I don’t quite get the 40 years later angle and how this film is going to pan out, but I will reserve judgement even though I am curious in the “Halloween ended in a different way” comment!
Perhaps, we see the scene of Loomis shooting Myers but instead of him running away, he is actually laying there, badly hurt and gets carted away……and years later he escapes one last time……..
I suppose we all have to wait and see!
