WRITER OF NEW ‘MATRIX’ MOVIE GIVES US AN UPDATE….KIND OF

It really is all about remakes at the moment, and I know I was not the only one of us on HCF to be not too pleased at the news last year that Warner Bros. was developing a new Matrix film [I know I’m in the minority here, but I think it’s a great trilogy and they should just leave it alone]. The rumours were that Michael B. Jordan was starring in the film, and that it would focus on a young version of Morpheus. One thing that screenwriter Zak Penn made clear though was that this is not a reboot, so for that I guess we could be grateful.

Well, during an interview with ‘ScreenRant’ the other day, Penn offered an update on what seems to be a passion project for him, and addressed the similarities between The Matrix and the OASIS in Ready Player One which he scripted for Steven Spielberg, though he didn’t really reveal much in the way of concrete details.

“I’ve been working on Matrix right now. Which is in…a phase right now. That’s a franchise I desperately want to see brought back and, I can’t go in to too much detail, but I’ve been harassing Warner Bros. for years to try to get it going again so that’s one thing I’m working on and I’ve been working on a bunch of other things too.”

“I think OASIS  is similar. Both the Matrix and OASIS are similar in that they are brilliant ideas for universes. When it came out about Matrix, people were like ‘Oh no, there going to reboot Matrix’ I was like, Why, I’m not insane. I mean, The Matrix is still one of my favorite…they’d re-release is and people would go see it.”

The Matrix is certainly a huge universe full of potential for exploring, so perhaps this could be a good idea after all.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
