Following Tom Cruise’s hinting that the Top Gun sequel has begun production with the above picture and the tweet “#Day1”, ‘Entertainment Weekly’ has recently reported that Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky will also be back. Val Kilmer has just signed on to to reunite with Cruise. Hopefully we will get to the answer to the question posed at the end of the original film as to who will be who’s wingman.
Cruise previously confirmed that the 30-years-later sequel, directed by Tron: Legacy and Oblivion‘s Joseph Kosinski, will examine the impact of drone warfare on the role of fighter pilots in the modern battlefield, and that:
“Stylistically it’s gonna be the same. We’re gonna have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer. Aviators are back. The need for speed, we’re gonna have big machines. It’s gonna be a competition film like the first one, and it’s gonna be in the same vein, the same tone as the first one but a progression for Maverick.”
The release date is July 12, 2019.
