Flesh Art (2012)
Directed by: Christopher Goodman, Nick Thompson
Written by: Christopher Goodman
Starring: David Laurence
Written and co-directed by Chris Goodman and Nick Thompson, FLESH ART revolves around a lone survivor, played by British actor David Laurence, of a virus outbreak that has caused its victims to turn into flesh-eating zombies. Holed up in his basement, the man imprisons the infected and dissects dead bodies to use the body parts to create his ‘body’ art sculpture.
With its running time at around 5 minutes, Christopher and Nick have scuplted their own macabre masterpiece in the form of FLESH ART. The sets, which were built on the NFTS sound stage and were designed by Antonia Lowe and Patrick Harris, are grim and produce a grisly atmosphere to the already horrifying story. The make-up techniques, which were taught by renowned British award-winning studio, Millenium FX, are top notch with amazing attention to detail whilst keeping the subjects realistic.
The film is shot with lots of black, greys and brown shades, injecting an unsettling sense of dread into each shot and is complemented by a subtle yet effective score. You can tell nothing has been looked over in this movie and the filmmakers are keen to deliver a short, sharp story that will instill unease in the viewers hearts.
With this impressive short, I am keen to see future projects from both Chris and Nick and hope one day they use their skills to create a feature length film. Chris is currently working with short film anthology Bloody Cuts and has worked as art director on their shorts since ‘Mother Died’.
