Ah Jeff Bridges, better known these days as The Dude, or His Dudeness, name me one person who doesn’t like him! Bridges has always been a fine actor, but it was his turn in the Coen Brothers The Big Lebowski as The Dude that really changed his life. Since then Bridges has gone from strength to strength giving one superb, masterful performance after another. He was simply perfect for the role of a drunken former Country Singer in Crazy Heart, and teaming up with the Coen’s again for True Grit was another wise choice and powerful performance, and he added some much needed quality to Tron: Legacy. But now it seems he will be returning to comedy!
Based on Peter Lenkov’s comic called R.I.P.D (Rest In Peace Department), the new film directed by Robert Schwentke was originally due to star Zach Galifianikis, however he has pulled out. This has now allowed Bridges to step into the role, and should make the comedy/horror all the better for it.
Bridges will play Roy, who I belive is the boss of the RIPD, while Ryan Reynolds will play Nick Cruz, a recenlty murdered cop who joins the force of the undead to find his killer. It sounds great fun, and with the promise of monsters, violence, zombies, comedy and now The Dude himself, what can possibly go wrong?
