James Wan is very busy indeed, and with Insidious set to become the most profitable movie of the year, he is a very bankable director for the studios. This probably explains why Icon Entertainment have signed a eight movie deal with him where Wan will produce eight low budget movies. After the success of the Saw franchise, and now Insidious literally scaring audiences out of their wits, Wan is wanted by everyone to create the next big horror movie.
Already on the cards is the Nicole Kidman chiller Spectre, which is another haunted house chiller. Wan is now also in talks with New Line to direct The Conjuring, a film “inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family,” This was originally Summit Entertainments movie, however New Line have now bought the rights and want Wan to direct. Thankfully, it looks like it will be more of the same for Wan as The Conjuring is also about a haunted house. I just hope the talented director does not fall into a trap of doing the same films over and over. I don’t see that happening to be honest, but with the success of Insidious, why wouldn’t studios with a haunted house movie go to him first?
More on this as we find out.
